A westbound car driven by Christopher Michael Thielen of Arapahoe County crossed into oncoming traffic and an eastbound motorist was hit; the 38-year-old woman was taken to Medical Center of Aurora South.
The 48-year-old man driving a third car that swerved to avoid hitting the first two cars went through a fence on the south side of Smoky Hill Road; he was not injured.
Two other 17-year-olds, both students at Smoky Hill High School, were killed in an accident about 2 miles away from the scene in December.
