A fifth grader is in critical condition after he was run over trying to catch his school bus on Friday morning.
It appears the boy, 12, was late and running alongside the bus pounding on it to get the driver’s attention when he tripped and was run over, police said.
He was taken to Swedish Medical Center where he underwent surgery on his foot, hip and leg.
Authorities said it is unclear if the driver knew the boy was chasing the bus. It has not been determined if the driver will face any charges, said a Denver Police Department spokesman. The accident remains under investigation.
There were more than 20 students on the bus at the time of the accident. They were transferred to another bus and taken to school.
