New health plan pays for healthy choices.
UnitedHealthcare unveiled a new program this month which will allow Coloradoans to save as much as $4000.00 in their insurance deductibles if insureds maintain low blood pressure and smoke free, among other things. The plan, called “Vital Measures” will be tested in Colorado, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania and Ohio.
The plan is only available to those companies with between 100 and 1,000 employees. UnitedHeathcare hopes to roll out the plan nationally in 2008. It allows an employer to offer workers a high-deductible health plan with a minimum of a $2,500.00 deductible for individuals and $5,000.00 for families, for example. For each health standard — body mass index, blood pressure, cholesterol and tobacco use, individuals can receive a $500.00 discount and families can receive $1,000.00.
What a good idea. Clean living pays indeed.
